Interviewing a handful of REALTORS® is a great idea to discover how different professionals work and operate, and how their style fits with yours. During this phase you can discover how long they’ve been in the industry, the ways they like to communicate, how their office operates, what resources they have, and how familiar they are with the area you are interested in.
REALTORS® offer a service and like most service providers, referrals make up an important part of their business. Furthermore, you will likely trust the opinions and experiences of those that you are close to. If you’ve had a friend or family member recently buy or sell a home, ask who they used as a REALTOR® and if they would recommend their services.
Gathering references is a great way to gain a different perspective of your REALTOR®. While recommendations from friends and family are important, learning about others’ experiences and opinions can provide valuable insight.
A great place to gather information beyond references is from online reviews, and checking testimonials from past clients. You can also do some high level research about the value of your home if you’re selling, or some prospective properties that may fit your needs and wants if you are buying. This allows you to ask informed questions and use their expertise to make the best possible decisions.
