Finding The Best REALTOR®

Louisiana Realtors • June 15, 2021

Whether you are buying or selling a home, one of the most important things you can do is select the best REALTOR®. A REALTOR®’s knowledge, experience, expertise, and resources can be invaluable in making your real estate transaction a successful one. But how do you know what to look for in order to find the REALTOR® that is right for you? Let’s take a closer look at how you can select your perfect REALTOR® by addressing some common questions you may have.

  • Should I Interview Multiple REALTORS®?

Interviewing a handful of REALTORS® is a great idea to discover how different professionals work and operate, and how their style fits with yours.  During this phase you can discover how long they’ve been in the industry, the ways they like to communicate, how their office operates, what resources they have, and how familiar they are with the area you are interested in.

  • Are Family and Friends Referrals Helpful in Selecting a REALTOR®?

REALTORS® offer a service and like most service providers, referrals make up an important part of their business.  Furthermore, you will likely trust the opinions and experiences of those that you are close to.  If you’ve had a friend or family member recently buy or sell a home, ask who they used as a REALTOR® and if they would recommend their services.

  • Should I Request References from My Potential REALTOR®?

Gathering references is a great way to gain a different perspective of your REALTOR®.  While recommendations from friends and family are important, learning about others’ experiences and opinions can provide valuable insight.

  • What Type of Research Should I do Before Selecting a REALTOR®?

A great place to gather information beyond references is from online reviews, and checking testimonials from past clients.  You can also do some high level research about the value of your home if you’re selling, or some prospective properties that may fit your needs and wants if you are buying.  This allows you to ask informed questions and use their expertise to make the best possible decisions.

These are only a few questions and considerations that can help you find the right knowledgeable and professional REALTOR® for your needs.

From the Louisiana Department of Insurance: Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple announced today that the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) continues its work to develop a regulation creating benchmark discounts for Fortified roofs in Louisiana. The LDI is working with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to develop the benchmark discounts using Louisiana-specific data, hurricane modeling and actuarial considerations. “With over 11,000 Fortified roofs in Louisiana and two years-worth of insurer experience with rating for those roofs in our state, now is an appropriate time for the LDI to establish benchmark discounts for homeowners insurance companies operating in our market,” said Commissioner Temple. “These benchmarks are being thoughtfully developed to help consumers receive the discounts they deserve for fortifying their homes while making sure insurers know the benchmarks reflect how much Fortified roofs actually mitigate their exposure to risk across Louisiana.” Like in Alabama’s Fortified benchmark discount structure, the LDI regulation would require Louisiana insurance companies to either meet the minimum benchmark discount established by the LDI or provide actuarial justification for why the company’s discount does not meet the benchmark. Louisiana is the fastest growing state for Fortified roofs in America. To date, over 11,000 Fortified roofs have been installed in Louisiana, including over 4,100 through the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program.
