2021 Legislative Session Kicks Off April 12

Louisiana REALTORS • April 9, 2021

The 2021 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature begins Monday, April 12th. To date, almost 900 bills have been filed – many of which seek to restructure Louisiana’s tax system. Legislators were allowed to file five pieces of non-fiscal legislation and can introduce certain bills and resolution until April 21st

Your Louisiana REALTORS® Bill Review Team, which is made up of members from across the state, will meet on Thursday, April 22nd to determine which of these bills Louisiana REALTORS® will support, oppose, or monitor on behalf of the industry. The types of bills the Team will review seek to fund the state budget with an assessment of a state property tax rather than sales and income taxes, require real estate licensees to renew their licenses by September 30th, change how tax sales are advertised, eliminate certain tax credits, and more.

After the Bill Review Team meets, an interactive Bill Tracking Report will be made available on this website with the position of Louisiana REALTORS® on each bill it has identified as having the potential to affect your business or property rights. Any bill on the list will be able to be accessed and viewed in its entirety by clicking on the number of the bill on the left of the page. The Bill Tracking Report will be updated weekly.
